Title: Patterns or fantasies?
Post by: <k> on February 25, 2018, 01:36:40 PM
Here is an interesting ebay collection:

ebay dealer (https://www.ebay.ca/sch/m.html?_odkw=&_ssn=arkadyn&hash=item56a6149d1e&item=372153556254&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2046732.m570.l1313.TR12.TRC2.A0.H0.Xpattern.TRS0&_nkw=pattern&_sacat=0)

Some are definite fantasies, but some look plausible enough to be official patterns or trials.

Below: a 1990 coin followed by a 1996 pattern(?)

Top piece is official and minted at The Royal Mint. As for the other Maldives coin, in 1996 Tower Mint produced coins for the Maldives without any knowledge or authorization of the Maldives government so that is why the second piece is not listed in the 2018 edition of the Weltmünzkatalog but was listed in editions of previous years. Tower Mint has in the past several times minted coins without authorization of governments. As for the third piece no idea.

I see. The Maldives 1996 piece looks very deceptive.

Pattern or fantasy?

Note the "rare spelling error": SHILLINGI instead of SHILINGI.  :-X
