Title: Latvia 2018: Zemgale
Post by: eurocoin on February 09, 2018, 04:15:39 PM
Next issue in the very boring coat of arms series of the provinces of Latvia, this time Zemgale. Mintage of 500,000 pieces with 12,000 additional ones in BU quality. Date of issuance is second half of 2018.

Boring indeed. At least they have only four provinces and the issues are spread over multiple years. Just to make you shudder at a thought: France has 96 departments. >:D

Ah, but France has already done three series of collector coins dedicated to the country's regions: 2010 (flags), 2011 (buildings), 2012 (people). And that was before the reform, so the first series had 27 coins, the other two had 28 each. Fortunately those were collector coins, so I could simply ignore them. ;D

This Latvian series is somewhat disappointing indeed. Even if the only theme is the CoA of a province, the designs could be a little less "static" in my opinion ...
