Title: Vatican: Two €2 Commemorative Coins in 2018
Post by: chrisild on January 13, 2018, 12:35:41 PM
The Vatican plans to issue two commemorative €2 coins this year. According to what Nerone69 (http://collezionieuro.altervista.org) writes, one will be dedicated to the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018. More background is here for example:
https://europa.eu/cultural-heritage/ (European Commission website, in various languages)
https://sharingheritage.de/en/ (German Monument Protection website, in English and German)

The second coin honors Padre Pio (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Padre_Pio) who died 50 years ago. The designs of the two coins are not known yet ...

Two commemoratives per year from Vatican and San Marino is increasingly becoming a financial burden for those who collect them. As for Vatican, each BU version costs €18 (2017 price) and proof version costs €37 each. So an expense of €110 just for four coins (shipping extra) and that too if you are lucky enough to get them directly from the UFN. ::)
