Since the Libyan coins dated 2014 came out I've been suspecting that they were also minted by the Russian Goznak, but I've been unable to find confirmation. The Goznak boasts about their recent large minting deals with Angola and Colombia but they don't mention Libyan coins at all. E-mails are naturally never answered.

This obviously doesn't prove anything about the origins of the 2014 coins, but their style and general appearance look very similar to the new dinar.

Can anybody read what the script says?

Design element 2 is described as silphium (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silphium), so it fits exactly into the 50, 100 dirhams, ¼, ½, 1 dinar coin series that was announced and described by the Central Bank of Libya four years ago.

They already have banknotes printed by Russia (http://www.worldofcoins.eu/forum/index.php/topic,35464.0.html), so it won't be surprising if the coins are also struck by Russia.

The coins have been struck in Russia. Here (https://mostlyeconomics.wordpress.com/2017/10/23/eastern-branch-of-libyan-central-bank-launches-its-own-coins-made-in-russia/) is the confirmation.

East Libya continues to depend on its own currency

See

UPDATE 1-EXCLUSIVE-Supplies of banknotes from Russia to east Libya accelerated (https://uk.reuters.com/article/libya-economy/update-1-exclusive-supplies-of-banknotes-from-russia-to-east-libya-accelerated-this-year-data-idUKL8N27E3HN)

Is 2 Dinar coin likely?
What exactly is difference in notes printed in UK and Russia?

- 20 and 50 Dinars printen in UK present plate in Optically variable ink ( half moon and star )

Are these differences noticeable at a glance by user?
Do each type of currency notes legal tender in their part of the country?

The currency difference is one point of determining sovereignty of the nation. Should East Libya be listed separately?

Just read in this week's Der Spiegel (https://www.spiegel.de/politik/bremerhaven-tonnenweise-dinar-muenzen-zoellner-beschlagnahmen-mutmassliches-falschgeld-fuer-libyen-a-00000000-0002-0001-0000-000173324599) that German authorities (more precisely the prosecutor/DA office in Bremen) are trying to determine what should be done about the 17 million 1 dinar coins that Goznak had produced for Libya – but again, not for the government recognized by most countries but for that of Chalifa Haftar.

On 10 June, German customs found nine containers that were supposed to be transshipped in Bremerhaven. They noticed that the declared recipient was not the "legitimate" central bank but some non-existing branch office in Baida. Therefore the pieces are currently considered to be possibly counterfeit. Now the question is what to do with them. Guarded storage would cost about €40,000/year, and sending the containers back to Russia is, according to the article, not possible for legal reasons ...

Excellent suggestion.  >:D Unfortunately the "Spiegel" article does not come with any photos, and I also looked at the German customs (https://www.zoll.de/DE/Home/home_node.html) news releases ... nada.
