Title: Are these IPS coins fake?
Post by: parimal on September 21, 2017, 11:25:22 AM
These coins were posted on another site's forum for identification.
I think they are fake and are copper imitations of Rupee coins
What's your opinion about them?

Hard to be sure if genuine,  some of the Baroda Paisas look similar to Rupees , it gets harder to spot fakes and even the commonest coins are appearing faked now, looking at the edge those do not look like they are cast however,  usually cast ones  show file marks on the edge attempting to hide the join, often they use brass instead of copper as it's a lower melting point.  Very often fakes are of the wrong weight as well

Coin 2 (is upside down)  and is a Sultanate coin

Yes. Fake. I was myself fooled ( a friend stopped me) into buying one at an exorbitant price 2 weeks ago.

@asm and @capnbirdseye
Thanks for the replies.

It is getting harder to spot fakes.
