Title: Niue 5 Dollars (1987): Steffi Graf, KM# 5
Post by: Bimat on June 25, 2017, 03:20:59 PM
Got this coin the other day. Quite sure that it's a NCLT. Or is it not? The coin commemorates Seoul Summer Olympics (1988), and depicts tennis legend Steffi Graf (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steffi_Graf).

Krause tells me that 50,000 coins were struck.

It is NCLT. Niue has never had its own coins in circulation.

Thanks! I'm happy with the fact that it's at least not an illegal tender (or NLT). ;D With this coin, I now have one more country represented in my collection. That was quite unexpected and non expensive (paid €1 for it) addition so not going to complain about its status as a legal tender. ;)

Congrats! But still doesn't take away from the fact that this is a pretty ugly coin. Belongs in that bad portraits thread

True! ;D But I think that 'Worst Portraits" thread is supposed to be only for heads of the state. If we start adding other personalities as well to the thread, it may become one of the longest on the board. >:D

That's not true. It just happens that the majority of people portrayed on coins are royals and / or statesmen of some sort.
