Title: silver scarf holder with 1916 mark?
Post by: Michiel on December 07, 2016, 11:35:24 AM
I bought this piece, but have no idea what the use was.

its a 1916 mark, the jewel is stamped DS (or BS) 835, so silver.
has been very well made, the lock is also working great.

it has an little acorn (also very well made) on the end of the chain.
total weight is 10,61 gram

Hi,

I would guess it's a scarf holder or closer. Maybe, but not likely, a tie pin.

the idea of an scarf holder is an good one.
I did also some measuring.

in closed position:
30 mm space across
5 mm in the middle,
10 mm at the end part

Hi,

on internet I have not seen anything as elaborated as yours, so even if the coin is not worth much, the piece (brooch) might really be exclusive.... >:D

An numismatic friend that i sended the pictures also thought of am scarf holder.

Internet searching also didn't gave much clue's.

I think its also made before ww2. The coin is in almost mint condition, looking at the inside part of the coin, the eagle is polished. The patina is also old. The piece is handmade. No modern piece.
