Title: Iranian civic copper fake
Post by: saro on November 16, 2016, 10:52:15 AM
32 bids , 71 $... ::) I hope that no WoC member will  recognize here the coin he just bought on eBay... too beautiful to be honnest  ::)
Few months ago, that was an extraordinary other coin of Isfahan mint showing Fath 'Ali's portrait, an unexisting coin sold for (only..) 171 $; a copy of the rare presentation gold & silver coins of this ruler.

This is getting really bad now with dealers selling fakes and refusing to answer if questioned. Apparently this seller had another one struck from the same dies for sale a few months back  :o

Can you give more insight in why is it a fake? I'm no specialist on these coins, just curious.
Thanks,

Iranian civic coppers in mint state are of a great rarity but exist; but to find two identical coins with the same details /"same "dies" is exceptional and a similar coin has been sold 5 months ago by the same seller...
-  the script is thick and smooth and the design appears too soft.
-  fresh copper areas are visible on both faces and are suspect.
The best is to have a look on coins listed on Zeno database or on WoC and make a comparison... attractive coin but deceptive  :'(

I think this was sold by a UK based seller?
If not then there is a third copy of it...

Yes, and I send him a message 6 days before the end of bids, I am still waiting a reply...
