Please help in identifying this coin.
weight : 5.03gm
diameter : 17.49mm
I found a similar one on zeno.ru - http://www.zeno.ru/showphoto.php?photo=47296
Thanks in advance

I think you are right about the similarity with the one on Zeno. It just is a different mint. The one on Zeno is from Tabriz. I am pretty sure yours is from Amid mint. ضرب أميد "Zarb Amid" in lower part of right picture. Just above this the rulers name Ya'qub: يعقوب. There are some from this mint also on Zeno, however, there the mintname is only partly readable.

Any info on where it was found?
Many years back I was shown a bunch of such things in Indore, and was told they were found at Mandu, which is a bit curious....

That is curious. Though I bought it on ebay, the seller is from Bhopal :)
Don't know from where the seller got it.

The Bahmanids claimed Persian roots, and I have read that quite a few Persians emigrated to South/Central India in the medieval period, essentially refugees from Timur's wars. This coin post dates that event of course, but such finds maybe (???) point to ongoing links between the communities?

I asked the seller if he knows anything about its origin and he said he bought it from a local dealer in Indore along with other Mughal coins lot. According to him people coming to this dealer's office for selling are mostly normal villagers or other local dealers who buy from jewelers. That's interesting as this coin is also most probably found somewhere near Indore :D

Thanks - I think we can call that a result. :)
I was shown such pieces by an Indore collector, probably it was 1978.
The grade is very nice. My first guess would be that there might have been one big find, dispersed decades ago, but still trickling into the market........

Yes that could be the case. Most of the finds in India do not get reported and end up with the local jewelers.
