Title: Please identify the coin: Samanid Dirham, Balkh mint
Post by: Saikat on April 09, 2016, 09:35:50 AM
Hi,
Please can this coin be identified? It is a very thin coin with about 25mm diameter and 3.18 gm weight.
Got it in a FB auction. Looks like Ghaznavide Dirham?
Thanks,
Saikat

Banijurid's dirham. Ruler is  Ahmad b. Muhammad b. Yahya; Samanid Nasr b. Ahmad is cited as an overlord.
Mint is Balkh. Date is unclear for me (as a propose 304 or 309).

Well, looking at this one i only dared to say this is not Ghaznavid.
Very impressive attribution toofast, and welcome to WoC !

Many thanks for greetings!
I am so sorry but my first attribution was incorrect. I was confused by unclear name at the bottom of obverse field.
This is just Samanid's dirham minted at Balkh in 329AH (under Nasr II b. Ahmad).

most probably 319H , first word lilah , and last in other center " ahmad" Banijurid comes in this name if not rebel ,
