Bombay Presidency 1771 Pice made of Tutenag
Obv: Large crown dividing G and R, with Bomb below
Rev: AUSPICIO / REGISET / SENATUS / ANGLIAE / 1771
Congratulations. They don't often come so well struck and preserved.
Peter
Thank you Peter. Yes, I have seen only couple of examples like this. It mainly has to do with the alloy (Tutenag) with which this series is made. It is very easily corroded, and hence it is quite hard to find examples with minimal corrosion.
Wow, beautiful coin.
Stunning coin, could you pls mention the weight of this coin.
mahe
Superb, rarely seen coin
Thanks Vic, Mahe and Mitresh ji
Sorry for the late reply. The Weight of the coin is approximately 14.2g
I have one, but of the slightly-different, dateless type (http://www.worldofcoins.eu/forum/index.php/topic,19462.msg131592.html#msg131592). In person, the color is very brownish, almost like chocolate, whereas all the pictures tend to be appear as grayish.
cmerc, nice coin! I have had difficulties in taking the pictures too! I guess the best picture I got was in broad sunlight and not under room lighting.
Thanks naabh4, those pics are the dealer photos. I didn't get an opportunity to take pictures myself.
Wow, awesome. I only have a 1741 2 Pice. PCGS VF Details. Not great but they're such scarce coins I was happy just to have one and they're not cheap !
Here is a recently acquired specimen.
Bombay Presidency
AE Double Pice (Tin), 1741
25.038 grams, ~39 mm
A better-preserved specimen of this type of cast coinage clearly showing date. Nice wide flan with large, bold fonts -- very satisfactory feel in hand!
Nice one cmerc :). I was the underbidder on this one, lol ;D
