Title: Golden Coins
Post by: juliencolle on June 09, 2009, 01:07:11 PM
Hello,

My aunt gave me 4 golden coins. So now I'm wondering how much these are worth...

See this site for pictures: http://www.mypicx.com/06092009/Golden_Coins/

I uploaded both sides

Thank you

Hi Julien,

Could you please post these coins in four separate threads They all belong on different boards. For the first coin, we also need diameter or weight. Thanks.

Peter

The 1990 Maple Leaf is half an ounce of .9999 gold, it has no collector's value only bullion. However as these coins are purer than most bullion issues, people will pay more for them than less pure products.  Gold price here: http://www.goldprice.org/gold-price.html Currently $954. So this is probably worth just $500. It is a modern bullion product, not really a coin.

The 1901 coin is a Queen Victoria 'Old Head' sovereign (British pound coin). It was minted in London. It has 0.235 troy ounces of fine gold, which is $220 worth. Its value will probably be about $250, a slight premium for its numismatic value.

The 1851 20 francs is 0.1867 ounces of fine gold, which is about $175 worth. It's worth $200, which is slightly above the melt value, because it has again some numismatic value, although as with all the other coins, it was issued and survived in large numbers.

The 'B' is commemorative gold medal 20 franc coin for King Baudoin of Belgium's silver jubilee. 318,187 were minted. It also contains 0.1867 ounces of fine gold. It has pretty much no numismatic value, sell it as bullion - $180.

I just have an off-topic question: I posted those images...do you guys see the image of a coin or do you see an image of 'mypicxs.com'?

Because first I saw the image but then it changed in an image of mypicxs....sorry for that
