Post by: behistun on March 01, 2015, 04:58:14 PM
I bought this coin around 14 years ago when I was a kid from chandni chowk (Delhi) fo around ₹20 . The roadside seller told me that it was of the shahjahans time  .I totally believe that roadside seller but now I need some expert comments ;-) . All comments will be appreciated. Thanks.

A very crude copy of a square rupee of Akbar I'm afraid: it should be in silver, not brass.

Below is a similar item from my collection of these tokens

Listning to the elders  / wise is always a good thing.

These were religious tokens issued long after Akbar. Many were worn around the neck or were used in the religious ceremonies.

I have a tendency to forget this advise frequently :P .  Btw so you are saying that the token I have was not made solely for the purpose of fooling collectors like me .They were originally made for some religious purposes. If that's the case then I have something more than a brass piece . :D
