India 5 Rupees (2011) - Rabindranath Tagore (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rabindranath_Tagore). Although he's more known for his work in literature (and a Nobel prize in literature), he drew few paintings too, one famous being Dancing Girl (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dancing_Girl_(Rabindranath_Tagore)).

Some very nice designs there. :) As far as my own collection is concerned, I tend to avoid such pieces (made "for" Andorra and Niue, except they don't circulate there) but they look attractive.

Taras Hryhorovych Shevchenko (Ukrainian: Тара́с Григо́рович Шевче́нко), 9 March 1814 – 10 March 1861, was a Ukrainian poet, writer, artist, public and political figure, as well as folklorist and ethnographer. His literary heritage is regarded to be the foundation of modern Ukrainian literature and, to a large extent, the modern Ukrainian language. Shevchenko is also known for many masterpieces as a painter and an illustrator.
He was a member of the Sts Cyril and Methodius Brotherhood and an academician of the Imperial Academy of Arts. In 1847 Shevchenko was convicted for writing works satirising the Tsar and Tsarina.

That's the second Ukranian artist I am discovering through this thread. I appreciate Shevchenko for his rich symbolism, but I am totally smitten by Roerich.
