Title: Orietta Rossi
Post by: chrisild on May 19, 2011, 03:33:30 PM
This year's commemorative €2 coin from the Vatican was designed by Orietta Rossi. While writing my posts (http://www.worldofcoins.eu/forum/index.php/topic,9867.0.html) about the piece, I looked at her website for more images. Have not seen any about the VA 2011 coin, but she does have lots of images and other info online. :) In case anybody is interested, here is a short biography in English: http://www.oriettarossi.it/bio_Inglese.html

And here are three pages featuring her works:

Excellent link! Thanks Christian.

While I am no admirer of the latter-day Baroque style, the portraits are jaw-droppingly good. The persons are immediately recognizable, which is hard enough on a coin, but she even succeeds in reflecting their character, especially on the medals.
