Its a rotation error and quite a big one. You will find coins with a slight axis rotation errors but this one is huge.
Shekar is saying that the coin when flipped from left to right (or right to left) the obverse and the reverse are not in alignment.

Congrats ! for Nritya Mudra Rs 1 coin I am seeing die axis rotation for first instance. (not even on ebay >:D)
Although the Unity in Diversity (Cross) Rs.1 , Rs.2 Coins from all the mints have similar errors .

I have made a study of all the die rotational cross coins. This error only is seen in the year 2004 and 2005 coins. My study till now suggests that the govt. and mint people minted these ...coins in "X" fashion.( Indian way of expressing cross "X"). When the objections started coming, they tried to rectify their coin by minting them as "+"fashion thus still more compounding their blunder by minting coins with real cross. That is why we do not see any rotational error in the cross coins after 2005 and all die rotational errors are exactly at 45 degrees. . I would like your valuable comments on the same.

Well I have Cross coins for year 2005 to 2007 (except 2004) , another point is how you observe cross
I think every one agree it should be + which is more appropriate as a cross symbol (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross) , May be I am wrong.
In my observation the coins with rotated x are few in quantities in comparison to + , I have coin of 2006 with die axis rotation , need to check 2007 and will revert back.

Please be informed that I have re verified it is Rs.2 cross coin of 2006 with anti -clockwise 12-15 deg , due to I can't able to take better images from my Canon IXUS 800 , later I will try to scan it and upload here.
For year 2007 I have few coins of this variety without any rotational errors.

What I posted about the 2004 and 2005 coins were that the error is exactly 45 degrees in all the coins. I have noticed this in all the one Rupee, Two Rupees and Ten Rupses coins. If the die rotation is exactly 45 degrees in all the 2004 and 2005 coins, then maybe the die was fixed in this manner, the mint people thinking that this is the right way to impress the coin.
Please check whether your 2006 coin has the same rotational degree of error .

Contrary to ideas of mint to fix the die x = 45 deg or + = 90 deg position , any variance in between would be an error ( for example 2006 cross coin with 12-15 deg is error in true sense) any way I am keeping this coin as different variety instead of looking it's value (as error tag) to get appreciated over years.
This thread again become informative and knowledgeable pertaining to these regular coins.

i recently got a 1 rupee corn theme coin with die rotation of 95 degrees (clock wise) but the coindition of the coin is not that good,the year is also not clear after 200_, so was this type of coin common during 2000,2001,2002,2003,2004
