The two supporters are described as "warriors", but they hold symbols of royal power. The US has maintained the one on the left. He is described as Kamehameha I and inspired by a statue of him across from the Ali'iolani Hale in Honolulu.

Amazing design, actually. The supporters (if that's what they are) personify industry and agriculture, just like the hammer and sickle of Soviet lore. Would this design have been aimed at the "traditionalist" section of the Russian market?

But that makes some sense. The piece was issued in 1998 to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Ukrainian People's Republic. The other side shows the Central Council building ...
