Uruguay 50 cent├ęsimos.

In 2008 Uruguay announced that it would issue a new circulation series

The reverse designs would depict wildlife:

50c - Southern Lapwing [Vanellus chilensis]; $1 - Armadillo ; $2 - Capybara; $5 - Rhea.

$10 - Cougar, also known as a puma or mountain lion.

In the event, the new series was not released until 2011.

However, on 1st July 2010 all existing (old series) 50 cent├ęsimos coins were withdrawn from circulation.

Coins of that denomination were then demonetised.

This was the result of high inflation.

The design depicting the Southern Lapwing therefore never reached production.
