I have a question I have ask on another site and was curious how many coins are in your collection.

I hd a response from a gentleman who only had three but valued abot 20K each.

Now I'm sitting on about probably a good 4000 coins from all different countries. some slabbed some in flips and some still raw.

I've learned if you want a variety of mixed world coins I would buy about 50-100 pound mix lots when they were very avialable about 307 years ago.  actually didnt do too bad due to finding silver and even a scarce french 1 franc piece on a lot i bought for 20 bucks.

I have 1824 coins. I know this because I enter their details into an Access database. I have discarded a fair few over time as my tastes have changed. I particularly regret selling my pre-war Lithuanian set, as I have come to appreciate their design more. Initially I had bought them in the 1980s because I wanted a set of all the countries of the 20th century - not for their design. Lithuania was still part of the USSR at the time.

However, I do NOT regret offloading my Estonian coins of the 1920s/30s. With a single exception, I still regard those designs as truly boring. My focus has shifted from being country-oriented to design- and theme-oriented.

Never counted....I would GUESS between 8 and 10 thousand but that is just a wild guess.  I can do some rough estimates and I get over 6400 just in binders.  7/8 of it really is worthless but was fun to collect.

Part of the fun is in the quest. The value doesn't interest me, other than not wanting to overpay. Have you ever sold any, or are you someone who says, once bought, it's for keeps?

If you are talking to me I have sold out my entire collection twice over the years and had one collection stolen.
I don't sell often but I sell ocassionally on ebay even now.

Not that long ago I wanted some spare cash to buy parts for a guitar I am building from scratch and sold about $500 worth on eBay.  Not sold anything in a few months.  A few hundred more dollars in parts and I can actually start on the guitar.  Grin

I love collecting coins but I am not in love with my collection.

Ah, so it's the thrill of the chase. (I remember you once expressing the same sentiment about Mrs Hall. Have you sold her yet?).

My current count is about 1600,including doubles etc.Largest contribution (obviously) comes from India,then USA (133,includes 108 state quarters and 12 presidential dollars),then Germany (115,includes Empire,Third Reich,Weimar Republic,Democratic Republic,Federal Republic,euro coinage),and then I think Belgium (52).

I also maintain an excel worksheet like Zombivore, and try to keep it updated, however there are some non existing coins in the list,I know Grin

A modest collection of Fanams and a few hundred cleaned coins that range around the Mediterranean.

Just started with Rupees but I guess my aim here in Mughal is around 200.

I have a collection of over 1000 each of Mughal & Indian Princely States Coins, a few hundred each of Sultanate coins, British India + India (post indipencence) and World Coins (from my overseas travels which I do not currently collect but do hoard for a time when may be I would be interested) and less than a hundred ancient Indian coins. Since my main collection interest today is centered around the struck Mughal & IPS issues, I do keep all coind that I get including duplicates as there are variations in almost all coins.

I have on a number of occasions tried to prepare a list of the coins that I have but somehow, each time I have done it, it gets meesed up because, i insert or remove a coin without maching corrections in the list and soon i am back to square one.... starting all over again.

Well the only coins i have ever sold were gold ones i bought when gold was at like 400$ sold them when it hit 800$. I have gave many away as gifts but dont really sell. I actually get alot of surprises when i dont go them them so often I forget what I have and get surprised when I look thru them again.

I think my favorites are my south american coins. I just love the designs and history behind em.

I gave up on trying to spreadsheet all but very select parts of my voluminous acquisitions over 15 years ago.
