RVCOINS

Hi Guys,

I need some help to compare the coin of VCOINS and the attached one.
The link http://www.vcoins.com/world/pspavlou/store/viewitem.asp?idProduct=869

Except missing the last two letters in the text TOPNEΣΙΑ I think it is the same one.

I want to be sure because of the high price that vcoins ask for this type of coin

Thanks!

Roland

I see more differences on the other side/
- shape of omega at 9 o'clock
- top of II in exergue: round in coin posted, straight on Pavlou's coin
- wing of lion away from pearl circle on coin posted, touches pearl circle on Pavlou's coin

To go from there to saying that one of those coins is an imitation is a step too far for me, though. Dies would wear fast and they were cut by hand. I never saw such a clear picture of this rarity before.

Type unlisted in KM. I am copying the description from Pavlou with some additions:

Giovanni Corner 1625-1629. AE. 30 Tornese ( 2 Soldi ).
( 3.10g, 25mm, 1h)
Obverse. *IΩΑΝ. KOPNHΛΙΟS O ΔΟΥΞ, (IOhANnis CORNILIOS O DOUG - John Cornelius the doge) in centre TOPNEΣΙΑ / TPIANTA (denomination, thirty tornesia).
Reverse. O AΓΙΟΣ MAPKOΣ (the holy Mark), winged lion of Saint Mark, in exergue * I I * (denomination, 2 soldi)
Ref: Unrecorded in CNI with legend TOPNEΣΙΑ, Paolucci 893 ( Rarity 2 ).
