Hi.
The Saxony 1/24 thaler Johan Georg IV 1694 does not seem to have a corresponding entry in Krause or Numista, it is listed under KM# 645 which belongs to Frederick August I ( see here https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces136304.html )
Compared to the coins of Frederick August I, it is very different, both inscription and form of shield.
However, the coin is not rare, I have 2 pieces of it and I can find it easily online. I attach my scans.
Should it not have a special entry in Numista & KM since it belongs to a different ruler?
Am I missing something?
Thanks

You are quite right that the coin clearly mentions Johann Georg. Also, both KM and Numista are incomplete for German states. The notation for this situation is:

Numista --

Wikipedia heroically tries to list the rulers of Saxony as its parts split and merged. There are five rulers called Friedrich August. The most likely candidate is Friedrich August II, the strong (1694-1733). There are four rulers called Johann Georg. Our guy is likely to be Johann Georg IV (1691-1694). The succession took place on 27th April 1694. Therefore, there may be coins dated 1694 with the name of Friedrich August II.

Hello,

Numista currently lists 16,000 coins from the German States, but many are still missing.
The 1⁄24 thaler from John George IV was recently added here: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces410746.html

Numista is a collaborative catalogue. If you notice other missing coins, you are welcome to add them (https://en.numista.com/help/a-coin-a-banknote-or-a-piece-of-exonumia-is-missing-in-the-numista-catalogue-what-can-i-do-8.html).

Many of our members are not members of Numista. I have been trying to work out a solution with Numista and, for that matter, Zeno. This is one reason why I encourage people on WoC to include a cross-reference (Xref) to Numista and - when relevant - Zeno in the threads, including when the coin is missing in Numista.

For the moment, the only areas of agreement are that Zeno includes a field for a Numista number in its listings (it remains virtually unused) and we agreed to exchange links to newly discovered coins on our sites.

However, nothing stops Numista's mods (or volunteers) from searching the board on WoC equivalent to their area of competence for "Numista --" and discovering coins on WoC missing on Numista, so that they can be added. In fact, the illustrations on WoC would be available to Numista in such an operation.
