Quote from: FosseWay on November 19, 2023, 11:52:40 AMThe issued version of the halfpenny reverse (for George VI) has no hyphen between HALF and PENNY. Previously I'd thought the Edward VIII patterns of the halfpenny and penny were identical on the reverse to George's.

Apparently the Golden Hind design first appeared on the proposed half crown.

The denomination was shown as HALF-CROWN.

The decision was taken to transfer the design to the half penny.

At first the hyphen was included, but in the final version it was removed.

So HALF-PENNY became HALF PENNY.

But I always prefer to spell it HALFPENNY.  :D

New Guinea, British west Africa and east Africa issued coins in Edward VIII name, they are quite common and inexpensive
All coins are equal but some are more equal than others
