Just found this variety..
With & without designer's initial on obverse..
Both have designer's initial on the reverse.
On Numista it's mentioned by the 20 Cantavos but not by the 50 Centavos..

It looks like the L in Brasil was re-cut (sharp vs rounded corner). This may or may not have to do with the disappeared monogram. The picture of a 1945 specimen in Numista doesn't have the designer initials either.
