Isle of Man, 2 pounds, 1986.

The Isle of Man's decimal circulation coins have usually followed the UK's precedents.

In 1986 the UK issued its first collector brass 2 pounds coin.

It was not bimetallic and was truly for collectors only.

The UK issued its first  bimetallic circulation 2 pound coin in 1997.

Apparently, the Isle of man issued its first circulation 2 pound coin in 1986.

It was made of virenium (Cu 70%, Zn 24.5%, Ni 5.5%) and was NOT bimetallic.

The reverse design featured the Tower of Refuge.

Can anybody confirm that this coin did indeed circulate back in the mid-1980s?

The final issue of the design type shown above was in 1987.

It seems that the 1986 issue had a mintmark on the reverse, but the 1987 version did not.

It is not a mintmark, it is a commemorative mark.

The Manx bimetallic circulation 2 pound coin of 2017 onward features the Tower of Refuge.

The design is similar in style of that of the monometallic circulation 2 pound coins of 1986/7.
