Dear friends

Hyderabad mint has started booking of 10Rs bimetallic coin on "Tercentenary of Gur Ta Gaddi". The single unc coin is available at Rs 150/-. Till now, "Gur ta Gaddi" coin was not available outside the UNC and Proof sets (Rs 10 + Rs 100) issued by Mumbai mint. In addition, this is the first time that Hyderabad mint is accepting direct bookings from collectors. With this, following records (of sorts) have been created:

(a)  First booking of commemoratives/NCLTs by Hyderabad mint.
(b)  First bimetallic coin by Hyderabad Mint (NOIDA & Mumbai are already producing these)
(c)  First time uncirculated commemorative coin (NCLT) has been issued by two mints - Mumbai &
Hyderabad (although circulated commemoratives are regularly issued by multiple mints)
(d)  First time Rs 10 is available outside UNC & Proof sets by advance booking!!

Regards
Sanjay Kansal

Sanjay, Thanks for this information. But how does one book the coin? Does the mint have a separate website?

Aditya,

Not bad at all. I think our ex Railway minister has shown the way to the government offices on how to loot the citizens.

Louis Braille is available for considerably less now in the open market. I guess the differentiating factor of ordering from the mint directly is that the coin will be sent as an official "coin set". Deliveries times are within the week as well.

The coins would, I presume, be in special packaging and be marked UNC. Ihe justification for the additional cost would be for that reason. The delivery time mentioned is quite fast. this is surprising. Kolkatta mint requires upto one year, Mumbai till some time back was the same but has greatly improved to around 2 to 3 months. But one week is amazing.
One thing I noticed is that there is no reduction in postage charges for multiple requirements.

Buying directly from mint is not a good idea,I suppose. You will pay 150 for coin+shipping+25 Rupees to get a DD+25 Rupees to send the DD to mint by post.Nah,I'll prefer to buy the coin from a dealer instead ;D however,I'm assuming that dealers are selling them for a slightly higher price than issue price right now ::)

Amit,

I am assuming the reason for a quick delivery is because these are normal UNC coins and they will already have them available.

With the proof sets that takes months and in the case of Calcutta over a year, they take all the orders first and then create the proof sets to fill those orders.

I am wondering if its worth ordering from the mint. Cost of each set should work out to 200 rupees for us which may not be worth it. My local numismatic society generally takes money from interested members and undertakes the responsibility of ordering and distributing the proof sets. I think they might do the same with this too which will bring down the cost a bit.

Why should it cost so much? The rate offered by the mint is inclusive of VAT & Poatal and Packing charges. So evenn if one were to walk across to the mint and pay cash, the rate would be the same as you would pay if you were to order them by post. The only extra charge will be the cost of DD. If you prder both sets and may be 2 each, the extra cost per coin would then be quite small compared to the high premium that the mint is charging.

Amit,

The cost would be near about 200 for me because I will have to mail the draft, I live in Bangalore. The cost of the courrier and the DD will be close to 50. I don't plan to order more than one.

I don't mind paying 200 bucks for a single coin only if the coin is in BU condition (but graded as UNC,as BU term is never used by Indian mints). But if the coin is in standard unc, with some attractive packaging(which is not at-all important),then the offered price is ridiculous.Any either case,I'll be buying the coins, though ::)

Has anyone ordered/received one such set? I would like to hear their comments on the first Indian NCLT ;) They have provided a (poor) scan of bimetallic in the order form, the mint mark isn't very clear, but it doesn't look like a star. ::)

I sent the payment to the mint on the 17th of Nov. I have as yet not received the supply which was to have been delivered within a week.
