Civic copper of Erivan (Iravan) / Aries
« on: December 05, 2019, 03:23:34 PM »
18-20 mm / 8,02g
Seems to be a new type, to add to numerous others from this mint.
The coin is worn and somewhat corroded, however the Aries symbol with a 3/4 view in front of a shining sun is elegant and unusual.
On reverse "zarb Erivan" is partially legible.
A coin struck likely at Qajars time.

Dear Saro, two digits " 64 ۶۴ " are visible at 10 O'clock of second photo which makes the date " 1264 ۱۲۶۴ ", which belongs to either:
Muhammad Shah Qajar (1250-1264 AH), or
Nasir al-Din Shah Qajar (1264-1314 AH).

Thank you Maythem, I have been looking in vain for a date on this coin  :-\
It is really not clear, even with the coin in hand...the reverse is similar to this one and I would have expected a date at bottom ?

Thank you Saro, I thought I will give it a try. The date could be below the word " Zarb ضرب " which will be off flan.

Congratulations on getting your hands on a discovery coin, saro! I agree that the Aries is really well done. I wonder if there are more signs of the zodiac in this highly interesting series.

Tank you Maythem and Peter.

All kinds of designs exist from Erivan mint but I am not aware of specific zodiac series,  some could appear, why not ?
