Kaiksikiiputra Satakarni, Satavahana AE
« on: September 24, 2019, 06:32:21 PM »
Hi,
This one looks very similar to AICR# 657 of Kaiksikiiputra Satakarni.
3.00 gm
16.0x18.2 mm
Obv: Bull to right Brahmi legand
Rev: Tree in railing with thick big leaves
But i am not able to read the Brahmi legands.
Can anyone read them please? Or confirm the attribution?
Thanks,
Saikat

I think this is the same king as Kochchiputra, just different spelling. I know in tha past Mitresh posted some similar specimen. But his picture links appear dead.
Here Anjan perhaps posted something similar ?

Thanks Anthony! Unfortunately all the similar coins I am finding out have the kings name on the top side of the bull. The Text I have is on the back side of the bull. So at best that will be the"Rajno" ?
Anyway, attached a smaller version of the coin which came at the same time with the earlier coin.
1.76 gm
16.3x13.2 mm
AICR #656
And now I see that the text on top of the below coin reads Ka ch chi (pu) ta (sa)
So, Kaushiki Putra it is!
Thanks,
Saikat

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

Very clear and helpfull overlay ! I am just not sure about the vowel marling of the "Ka" character. But i am also not sure whether it is Ka, Kau or Ko.
