As has been announced on the forum in April, the Falkland Islands are in 2020 planning to issue a newly designed series of standard circulating coins. A consultation process is being held on the islands to find suitable themes for the future coins. Furthermore a tender will be held for the full circulating coin production of the Falkland Islands.

Furthermore a tender will be held for the full circulating coin production of the Falkland Islands.

This tender was won by the Pobjoy Mint. In 2020 the Falkland Islands will issue a new 1 pound coin. The 50 pence coin of 2020 will be the 4 different penguin 50p designs first issued in 2017.

A consultation process to select new designs for the Falkland Islands coins should have already taken place but this has not yet happened. The Falkland Islands government is still planning to hold the consultation process. It is possible that the new coin series will be postponed to 2021.

But the new £1 coin is still a ''go?''

It looks unlikely now that this promised new series will be released before the end of 2022.

There have been no updates on this for quite some time. I am not sure that it will still happen at all.
