Interesting to note that Rajapaksha is cited as the PM here

The technical specifications and alloy are more interesting than the very boring design. Hopefully they will one day replace their coat of arms with thematic designs, although after it having been in use for 46 years I have little hope it will ever happen.

It would be helpful if our members would remember to include a year in the topic title when referring to NEW issues or NEW series. In five years' time (and earlier!), anybody seeing this topic might misunderstand, until they noticed the dates on the posts. Of course, some UK coins still have this problem, calling themselves NEW PENCE when they are in fact older than several of our members.

New coin series presented to MR

November 30, 2018

Central Bank Governor Dr. Indrajit Coomaraswamy officially presented a new series of circulation coins with face value of Rs.10, Rs.5, Rs.2 and Rs.1 to Prime Minister and Finance and Economic Affairs Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, this week. The coins will be issued into circulation from December 3, 2018 through licensed commercial banks. The new coin series was issued with the objective of reducing the cost of minting coins.

2017 - New Coin Series - Sri Lanka

Note the coins issued in 2018 December are dated 2017
CBSL did not specify weight and only thickness which is more difficult to measure.
When I did I found them about 8% thinner than specified.
