RBI Governor Dr. Urjit Patel has resigned citing personal reasons. However, it is no secret that RBI had differences with the central government on many issues recently. His term was to end in September 2019.

It is not yet clear who will succeed him but Hasmukh Adhia, who recently retired as finance secretary, is the front runner.

Shaktikanta Das has been appointed as new RBI governor.
