Pobjoy Mint has just announced the issuance of a new commemorative 50p coin series depicting penguins. The coins will be issued for the Falkland Islands. The first coin in the series is now available from Pobjoy Mint's website.

The image of the first coin in the series can now be unveiled exclusively on World of Coins Forum:

More penguins??  A bit of a lack of imagination there!  Are these the same species as before or different?  Guessing the same but more of a close-up.  Yawn (he says, before clicking on the site to order in the hope that it will rise in value...)

Only the Macaroni Penguin is new. The other 4 coins are the same species as issued last year.

I'd like to keep it, Col1n. It does no harm and your picture reminds me of me in my student days the morning after a wild party.

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

Yes, I locked your new topic earlier as a duplicate, Col1n, but I can see it's since been merged in with this one which is fair enough.

The eBay sellers are already cashing in, with prices above what Pobjoy are offering it as (well, I suppose they have to cover their extortionate eBay/PayPal fees...)

Coming next from Pobjoy... a new Gibraltar series of close-up head shots of the monkeys depicted in the previous series.  And anyone hoping for a larger Boaty McBoatface is in for a treat as a coin in the shape of it is coming your way... :D

Third coin now available (just to keep this topic up-to-date):

A limited amount of the Macaroni Penguin 50p coins has mistakenly been minted with an obverse of Gibraltar. 7 pieces have so far been reported as having been found. Earlier this morning someone on one of the collectors groups on Facebook noticed an ad of a Russian seller on eBay, there was a lot of scepticism until one of the group members checked her piece and found she had one of these mule errors too.

Update - Statement from Pobjoy Mint: Pobjoy Mint would like to confirm that a small number of mules have been struck for the 2018 Falkland Islands Penguin coins and some are out into circulation with customers. We would like to apologise for the inconvenience and should any customers would like to discuss a replacement please do not hesitate to get in touch with our support team via 01737 818182 or using our customer service email sales@pobjoy.com.

The final coin in this series is now available for pre-order (though I'm sure there'll be a Christmas penguin coin followed by yet another series...)

Very interesting and what a difference in price!
I have just dived into this and a contact informed me that the Falkland Islands government has solved the shortage of 50p's mentioned in this topic by ordering over 100,000 of the 2018-dated penguin coins. It is therefore unlikely that we will see a 2019-dated 50p of the new series.
