Samanid dirham, which mint?
« on: April 04, 2018, 02:51:10 PM »
I keep looking at this oval dirham, but it doesn't work. Is it dated 323? That would make it a coin of Nasr II, caliph al-Radi. I can't read the mint. Can you help?
Diameter 26-28 mm, weight 2.70 gr.

Can not read the mint. But indeed, in your right picture the third line in the center, after Muhammad rasul Allah, reads "Al-Radi bi'llah" الراضي بالله. The lowest line reads "Nasr bin Ahmad"  نصر بن احمد

The mint is Samarkand, but I read the date as 326 H.

Thanks Alan, that's great. Now I can put it in its rightful place and complete the description.
