Civic copper of Erivan / "lion & cub" 1136 AH
« on: August 24, 2017, 04:38:13 PM »
8,50g / 23mm / dated 1136 AH -  ref Valentine n°14 "lion & cub"
Could be a lioness with her baby looking back at his mother ?
This coin is well legible even somewhat worn and seems not to be easy to find in high grade if I judge from Zeno similar coins.

Hard to tell whether it's a cub or the Lions kill  :o   I couldn't find the mint in Valentine sy first but it's under  Caucasia

Yes Erivan coppers are not listed on Valentine's book with persian coins.
It seems that there is something written above the lion ( letter "n" or a word with a final "n" ?..)

From another coin with more clear upper part, that are only ornaments even if the lower part looks like the letter "waw"

Dear Saro, the suggested letter "Wow و " looks like a lion's tail which has a black tassel at the end (like a dot in the attached photo). This tassel is used to lead other lions through long grass and by females that raise their tail to give a "follow me" signal to their cubs.

Coin collecting has a curious name. It is also called the "Hobby of Kings".

Oh yes Maythem ! I didn't thought it could be the tail  ::) and now it's very clear...
Your comment on lion & lionness comportment is very interesting and reinforces the theme of this coin as "lionness and cub"
