Civic copper of Hamadan with two birds
« on: July 23, 2017, 03:47:08 PM »
Bought this at a coin fair on Friday, but I'm uncertain about the origin:

Fals, two birds chest to chest, heads turned backwards, 4.74 gm, 18.5 mm

I've looked in Valentine, etc, but no luck. Any suggestions gratefully recieved.

My first thought on seeing the photo was Valentine p.121/59  Caucasia which has a similar Obv but that's a shot in the dark i think but worth looking into

The mint is not Ardabil but Hamadan...
A similar coin is shown on Zeno, see here

Thank you very much for that Bernard.

As Vic says, fearful prices for what seem very standard overstruck Afghani pieces. It took me a while to spot my piece, with the obverse being upside down in their picture ::)

At first, it is very difficult to decipher the mintname at top; thing is easier with the help of the zeno examplar ...
