Sark is a small island off the north coast of France with a population of about 600. It is a royal fief of the Queen of England, who is paid an annual rent of £1.79.  Though part of the Bailiwick of Guernsey, it has its own laws based on Norman law and its own parliament.  It maintains many medieval customs and does not cars or street lamps.  In 2016 this unofficial 5 Pounds coin was issued for Sark.  One side depicts a horse carriage next to a medieval tower and wall.  The other side features a young woman, the arms of Sark and a small bust of Queen Elizabeth.  The 40mm silver plated coin has a mintage of 200 pieces and is Proof.

In real life Guernsey coins are the official currency of Sark, and Jersey and UK issues are also used.

If you ever find yourself in the Channel Islands I would recommend a trip to Sark!  :)

I recently added a genuine Sark - Amice de Carteret token c.1600 but strangely my post has now disappeared.

See it on my own site here

Lovely! I had no idea such a piece existed from such a small island so far back in time.

I deserve to be awarded the Nobel Prize for Predictions.   8)

Since they're listening to me and depending on me for new ideas, I shall now predict: 1] the Scilly Isles and 2] Shetland.
