Fishy fishy in the sea
« on: November 01, 2016, 09:21:27 AM »
One of the not so common Qarakhanid fals with an image. It's not easy to make a photo of this coin because of the shadows of the adjustment scratching. It looks like an old-fashioned fish, a sort of coelacanth type.
The coin was issued in Shash, 407 AH = 1016/7 AD. I didn't find it in Zeno. Can anybody read more?
Diameter: 25 mm. Weight: 3,13 gr.

Very strong imagery of the fish. What's written above and below i can not really make out. The center text of the other side just seems to be "Muhammad rasul Allah" with some embellishments.

Please, take a look at  #44400 and  #58428 on Zeno.
Obv.: 'Padsha' above fish and ' 'adil' below.
Rev.: 'Ilek'. It is a reference to Muhammad b. Ali, Arslan-ilek.

Thanks, toofast, those are great pics! Tried to find the coin with 'Fish' but that didn't work. They appear to be the same as mine, only my fish swims to left, not right... One wonders why the fish was put on the coin.
