Iran, civic copper of Shiraz overstruck on a Tabriz coin
« on: August 19, 2016, 02:22:48 PM »
Large and heavy civic copper : 19,08g /30mm.
It is uncommon that the two mintnames are both legible (Tabriz was the former).

Both mint names are so clear I had trouble deciding which is overstruck on which. In the end, I noticed that the big skateboard wheels had been overstruck by the small ones on the side of the lion. Assuming the same is valid for the other side, I agree Tabriz came first. :)

You must have a legendary collection of Iranian coppers, saro.

Most of these pieces are purchases made at a time when they did not interest anyone...except me  ;)

Peter, did you notice the small iranian royal crown in the loop of the lion's tail ?
But the real rarity is due to the skateboard, I agree  :D

Just occasionally one of these can still be found for cheap.  My last one came from a job lot of Asian coins - £4.35 total inc post from ebay.  Just have to have a little patience!

In my innocence, I thought it was a tulip. Singleminded Dutchman... ;)

Dear Andyg, you were lucky ! I see that on eBay there is today a fierce struggle for these coins... I have recently seen a coin sold for 202,50 $ (27 bidders ! ) potentially unique and for which I will not risk my hand in the "Bocca della Verita" about authenticity...
