200th Anniversary of the Kingdom of the Netherlands - 2013

In 2013 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Kingdom of the Netherlands the Ministry of Finance decided to issue a 2 euro commemorative coin. 10 artists were invited to submit designs. The realised design, that can be seen above, was made by Roosje Klap and Claudia Linders. The inner part of the design shows a continuing ribbon that starts from the outside depicting the effigy of King Willem-Alexander and continues to depict the effigies of his six predecessors: Queen Beatrix, Queen Juliana, Queen Wilhelmina, King Willem III, King Willem II and King Willem I. The effigies are surrounded by the inscription 'Willem-Alexander Koning der Nederlanden' (Willem-Alexander King of the Netherlands). At the left side of the effigies the inscription '200 jaar Koninkrijk der Nederlanden' (200 years Kingdom of the Netherlands) can be seen.

Paul Wolterink and Niels Stomps presented 3 designs.

All included a strong simplification of the portrait of King Willem-Alexander.

Monique Wijbrands depicted an image of King Willem I.

He is aboard a ship on the roaring sea that arrived in Scheveningen in 1813.
