A set of two coins, Rupees 100 and 10 will likely be released to celebrate the 475th Birth Anniversary of Maharana Pratap. The reverse face of the coin will show a portrait of Maharana Pratap along with the legend '475th Birth Anniversary of Maharana Pratap' in Devanagiri and English. The year 2015 will also be inscribed under the portrait. Wish the birth year was also added along with the current year.

The coin compositions appear to be like most other 100 and 10 Rupees coins. The 100 Rupees coin will weigh 35 gms of the quaternary alloy, circular with 44 mm diameter and 200 serrations. One the other hand, the 10 Rs bimetallic coin will contain an outer ring made of an aluminum bronze alloy and a Cupro Nickel inner ring. This smaller circular coin of 25 mm diameter will weigh 7.71 gms.

Now let's figure the release date.

Here's to 2016 with a hope of fewer coin releases after this blockbuster year. Happy New Year!

I guess the Maharana Pratap Coin is in the offing for quite some time. Disappointing that there is no Rs 475 denomination  ;D

I guess this one will be some time next year ...

Why should Mumbai mint sell a coin having silver of merely Rs 700 ( Rs 40,000 per kg x 17.5 gms) for Rs 3,940? It is excessive loot by Mumbai mint which will kill the hobby.

Kolkata mint is charging 2735 for similar proof set of Rajchandra and Deen Dayal. Why is Mumbai mint  charging 1205 extra? Is Cost of Production of Mumbai mint higher by 44% compared to other mint of same organisation?

This is very strange of Mumbai Mint. Looks like it is cyclic.

In past Mumbai Mint when it did re-strikes; they were cheaper than the other issues of the period. However Kolkata Mint re-strikes were at 5 times more.

However now it looks like Mumbai Mint wants to make some money.

This would be a pretty popular issue and the mint wants to maximize their profits. It is a profit making entity and have the right to do so. They are killing the hobby-- all the mints and that is the sad part. This is what happened to Canada when the overdid the commemorative thing. I am not buying any new proof sets with the exception of a few.
