Timurid, Shah Rukh, Silver Shahrukhi, Yazd Mint
« on: September 19, 2015, 09:32:44 AM »
Hi,
The attribution of this coin as given is :
Timurid, Shah Rukh Bahadur, Silver Shahrukhi, 4.90g, Yazd Mint, Countermarked “Adl Sultan Abu Sa’eedGurgan” in four lobed cartouche on obv.
Does it means this coin belongs to Shahrukh Mirza, son of Timur.
This being my first coin of this region, I would like to know more about it.
Thanks,
Saikat

Nice coin and countermark !
I can not tell you much more than you already know. To remain valid, coins of previous rulers often had to be countermarked by the official mint of the day. The design of your coin is of the "fifth coinage" that is post- 827AH.
The year should be at the bottom of the side in the lower picture, but has faded largely. However, because of the dot remaining there, one can guess that the date might have been 835AH.

Thanks for the correction. I am definitely not an expert on this series and believe your assertion over my previous best guess.
