Anyways looks like there will be no Silver Issue and by virtue of it no Proofs/UNC to buy  ;)

The release function appear to have been avoided, to keep a neighbour happy.
(Reminds me of Belgian 2 Euro bimetallic on Waterloo).
Rs 50 may be quarternly alloy but it is hard to believe that SPMCIL will forego the opportunity to mint money (pun fully intended) by not making proof sets.

Can't recollect offhand, but I guess in past there were one or two issues where there was no formal release ceremony, but booking were indeed invited.

Ya I guess, Mints are into Money Making business anyways  ;D

What really surprises me that this topic was proposed by Ministry of Culture in March.
As indicated in http://www.worldofcoins.eu/forum/index.php/topic,26416.0.html reply #11, I am unable to fathom relation between 1965 War ( now called operation) and Culture as well as the reason for foregoing the claim of "victory" which was proposed in original matter.

The proposals to PMO come from various Central Govt. ministries and state Governments. The topics are generally related to their domain/ territory/ history etc.

dheer

Leave it to politicians and they can link anything to anything ...  ;D

But I see the point Ministry of Culture getting into this ... strange indeed.

I think the RBI notification may have come a bit earlier than usual. Here are a few images for the coins that were released by Mr. Arun Jaitley, India's Finance Minister at Rajpath today. There is an exhibition called Shauryanjali that was inaugurated to commemorate the 1965 operations. Appears to be a set of Rs 50 and Rs 5. The five rupee coin seems to have a difference shape, somewhat similar to the old 2 rupee coins. The coin design is good, a pleasant change of themes.

dheer

Agreed. Great Design.

The coins still look to be circular. However they have an inner polygon design.

Is this the first coin where release function is held after issue of press release by RBI?

I can confirm 100% in recent times. Don't recollect any thing similar.

In not so recent times, the release functions were not held at all.
