Dheer, increase your budget.
I expect the coin in this calendar year itself.
As promised by the Prime Minister, "achche din aa Gaye hain" ( Good days are here ) for the numismatists.

Thanks Pabitra ji
I guess Nabakalebara festival coin is also in pipe line? Pabitra ji I guess you had mentioned this?
Will both coins will be released together?
Need to take loan this year I guess... :'(
Can we have separate thread to have list of coins released this year and current status? With so many releases its bit hard to track.

Earlier, Sanjay Kansal was maintains that list.
I believe Dheer has a list and should put it up.

Another way to achieve this is to open a thread with a mini index, called e.g. 2015 issues. You make a list of new issues and add links to the relevant threads. No more searching. Anyone can do this.

Centre to issue coins with Biju's image

Sujit Kumar Bisoyi | TNN | Feb 13, 2016, 09.10 AM IST

Bhubaneswar: The Centre will issue commemorative coins with former chief minister Biju Patnaik's image on March 5, when the state celebrates his birth centenary.

The coins of Rs 5 and Rs 100 denominations will be unveiled by chief minister Naveen Patnaik on March 5 here at a special function on March 5, official sources said.

"Following the approval of the chief minister, we have sent the design of the coin to the Union finance ministry, which will issue the coins," culture secretary Manoranjan Pannigrahi told TOI.

He said, "The coins will have the image of Biju Patnaik, his name and 1916-1997 - his year of birth and death. While the Rs 100 denomination is meant for showcasing, the Rs 5 coin will be for general circulation."

"To finalize the design, the state government constituted a committee, including members from different fraternities, artist Tarakanta Parida, artist and historian Dinanath Pathy and sand artist Sudarsan Patnaik," he added.

Biju Patnaik, who served as the chief minister of Odisha from 1961-1963 and from 1990-95, will probably be the first Odia on who the Centre has agreed to issue commemorative coins.

In 2015, the Centre had accepted the state government's proposal to release commemorative coins on Nabakalebara festival of Lord Jagannath, which is yet to be issued due to controversy regarding the design.

Biju Patnaik played a pioneering role in bringing industry to the state. His contributions include setting up the Paradip Port, Bhubaneswar airport, Regional Engineering College (now National Institute of Technology) at Rourkela.

Gazette notification for 100 and 5 Rupees issued on Feb 17, 2016.
The coin might be released on March 5, 2016

This is indeed true, thanks for sharing. The coins will have a portrait of Biju Patnaik and the legend will read Biju Patnaik Birth Centenary 1916-2016 in Devanagiri and English. Glad the dates are most likely going to be accurately depicted.

That said, the spelling in the Devanagiri script will most likely be different than the one on the postage stamp issued in 1999. The coin could have the spelling in Devanagiri as 'Biju', whereas the stamp had it as 'Bijoo'. Something to check once the actual coins are out in the market. Spelling errors in the vernacular version has been getting worse in government business and could start affecting coins as well.

The exact spelling in Devnagari is given in the gazette.

Possibly it was not stated very clearly. Trying again: The spelling on the postage stamp appears to be different than the one proposed to be inscribed on the coin. That's all. See the attached stamp and let's check what's on the coin once images are available.

Devanagiri spelling on stamp would transliterate as BIJOO
Devanagiri spelling on the coins would transliterate as BIJU
