USSR and Russia Coin sets - 1991/92
« on: February 13, 2015, 12:26:04 AM »
Hi
I recently picked up two uncirculated coins set year 1991/92. Russian coins are not my domain but these are really beautiful coins for the price I paid. But I can't find direct reference of the issuing mint. Anybody has an idea or these sets are not official releases

Nice sets! Could you please also post a picture of how the folder which holds these coins? I have seen these sets with different kind of packaging, hence the question...

These coins should have mint mark of issuing mint which is easy to distinguish.

What you see is all I have. Packed in transparent sleeve and coins on RED cardboard holder.

I have seen similar things done at Airports for tourists -
In Mumbai airport, there is a store which sells Mahatma Gandhi or Jawharlal Nehru coin sets in card board holder and prices are surprising >:D

I shall post the pic of set I have seen once I get back to home so that there's more clarity. :)

The mintmark is below the denomination on each coin in both sets, in the form of a monogram ЛМД or ММД (for, respectively, Leningradskiy / Moskovskiy Monetny Dvor). The pictures above are too small to see which; even with the coins in front of me I generally need a magnifying glass to tell which is which.

As to whether the sets are genuine and from 1991/2, I can't see that anyone would have the slightest interest in counterfeiting the coins. They are all available at low cost. So I suspect the coins are real. Whether the packaging actually dates from 1991/2 or whether some enterprising individual has printed new ones and inserted genuine coins, I can't say.
