Dear Friends

Mahatma Gandhi returned back from South Africa to change the destiny of India in 1915.

In 2015, centenary of this momentous event is being celebrated.

GOI could release commemorative coins on this.

Regards

Sanjay Kansal

I would say surprised release and theme  has been kept confidential unlike Jamshed Ji Tata commemorative.

The release was in Gandhinagar on the occasion of 13th Pravasi Bhartiya Divas.

Ten Rupees 2015 "CENTENARY COMMEMORATION OF MAHATMA GANDHI'S RETURN FROM SOUTH AFRICA" - bimetal or not?

Pabitra

The second coin released is of Rupees 10.
I am sure that it is bimetallic.

Miner

means a commemorative coin 10 rupees with the date 2014 would not be?

Pabitra

All coins of Rupees 10 since 2007 or so have been bimetallic.
There does not seem to any notification to change the specifications so far.
2014 commemorative of Coir Board are bimetallic.
( the list of commemoratives put on this board does not appear to have been updated).

If the specifications are changed before issue of coins, they may be issued in mono metallic form.

Miner

commemorative of Coir Board, though published in 2014, but the date on the coin - 2013
as well as Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board with the date 2012

Pabitra

The date on this coin is 2015.
This means there is no commem coin of 10 Rupees of 2014.
The general circulation coins of Rupees 10 with date of 2014 are bimetallic and they came out in October 2014 ( that is when I came across them anywhere).

In Republic of India, the date on coin is as per date of release function but metal composition is generally dependent on the specification in use at the time of issue. This can be seen with 5 Rupee commemorative coins issued between 2004 to 2007.
