Kwarezm shahs, Ala al-Din Muhammad, broad Dirham, Herat mint?
« on: December 15, 2014, 10:51:42 AM »
Got this coin with it's old ticket which says : Khwarizmshahs AR broad dirham, Ala al-Din Muhammad, Herat mint, rare

I can clearly see zarb Herat at the top, but there are non on zeno for this ruler/mint & the coin is weakly struck mostly so I can't see a date, can anyone recognise the type?

http://www.zeno.ru/showphoto.php?photo=52665 ?

But it's not in it's category, if you click to the Qwarezm shahs,Ala al-Din Muhammad, & see the list of mints then Herat is blank

But if you scroll down a bit, there always is a general category. Likely they put this here because of doubts on the mintname.

could be but the mint appears to begin with H so if not Herat what could it be?, i did a zeno search for Herat broad Dirham but got nothing other than mine probably because the other coin has H(erat)?

Here is my example, which I have classified as Album 1719, provisionally attributed by him to Balkh. It is also listed in SNAT XIVc, Hurasan III, 1467-1470 as 'uncertain mint'.

The are several of this type on Zeno, eg. 9988, but the most appropriate appears to be 52665, but with only the 'H' of the mint visible.

I will have to change mine to 'Herat?'.

What I see as Herat is seemingly wrong, frank on zeno pointed out thatthe word is hadha' (al-dirham, followed by the mint, but off flan).

Okay, then it looks like we're back to Album's 'Balkh?' :-\ :-\
