Would have loved to see Germany honor that occasion by issuing a coin. But the government seems to prefer the (somewhat arbitrarily picked) unity date in 1990 over the commemoration of the 1989 events. ::)

Such political decisions aside, your design looks attractive. Not sure whether such a hand with a flower can truly "represent" the events in Berlin or elsewhere in Europe at that time. But that problem applies to almost every possible design when it comes to such abstract occasions. Oh, and ... you won't see "Deutschland" on a coin from this country. ;) It's either the full country name (Bundesrepublik Deutschland) or a short abbreviation (that stupid "D") that you see.

Images that I have in mind regarding 1989 could be the fence between Austria and Hungary being cut, or (if one wants to focus on Berlin) people in the city climbing across the wall, sitting on it, taking pieces out. The Vatican tried another symbolic image ...

Side note: What I really like is your Bramante design. Great perspective or angle, and it also "works" on such a relatively small coin.

That's right, however an employee of Berlin Mint told me that they had seriously considered to issue a 2 euro commemorative coin for the take down of the Berlin wall, however ultimately they decided to not issue a coin for that occasion, this because of unknown reasons (probably the once you state above).

To Frizio, I think this is a very nice design, well done!

I needed that explanation, but with the explanation, this is a great design. I think the sunflower captures the optimism, the incredible outcome of what was once the greatest shame of Europe, while the hand symbolises the cost of that outcome very well. What does it take for this design to be considered?

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.
