Overlord,
Thanks for the complete information.
Which is the best reference for the coins of Humayun and Babur since they are not listed in Krause?

For coins of Babur, there is Zahir-uddin Muhammad Babur - a Nusmismatic Study by Aman ur Rahman. (I haven't read it though. It's a bit expensive at INR 2200. I have been trying to find a copy in a local library myself.) I am not aware of a similar work that focuses specifically on Humayun's coinage.

Some of the museum catalogs listed here are still pretty good for both Babur and Humayun (and, since they are now in Public Domain, available for the excellent price of FREE  :))
For copper coins of both Babur and Humayun (Agra, Delhi, Lahore, and Jaunpur mints; Babur's coppers have only been struck at Agra, as Oesho mentioned in an earlier post), I find The Copper Coins of India by W.H. Valentine quite satisfactory (quite excellent for other coins too; handwritten with clear hand-drawn sketches---and it's a steal at INR 125 for both volumes, hardbound!)

Thanks Overlord. One more favour. Where can I find the book?

You can find it here or here. It seems the publisher (LPP) has raised the price; just our luck  :(

Overlord,
Thanks for the info. I have already ordered the book along with the book - Manual of Musalman Numismatics.

You have bought more than a book, Ansari. This is a paper monument.

Mr. Valentine was fixing cobbled streets in Victorian London when he found some coins. He took the coins to the British Museum. Numismatists there identified most of the coins as Indian, but could not identify some of them (no wonder, they had to do without Oesho, Overlord and saro :)). They referred him to the library, probably expecting he'd give up in seconds.

Instead, Mr. Valentine taught himself to read Indian coins in several scripts and languages and became better than any of the experts in the British museum. Having acquired so much knowledge, he set out to write a book, illustrated by drawings he made himself. Since he was a simple labourer, he didn't know how to issue a book, so he hand-copied the book four times. Later editions were reprints of the hand-written first edition. His book became - and still are - a standard reference for Indian coins. Oesho says some of the coins described in the book have still not been found.

Mr. Valentine retired as a London tramway worker. When he died, a major portion of his collection was bought by the British museum.

I am convinced that, if he had been born later, his modest background would quickly have become irrelevant and his knowledge would have propelled him to the top of the scientific and numismatic community. His book is an objective lesson in the enormous economic cost of judging people by class, irrespective of their capacities.

For a moment, I thought that Indian Government has issued some copper Coins on Valentine's Day. ;D ;D ;D
Is it just a coincidence that a reply has been received to this thread on the Valentine's day?  ??? ???

I have the book on disk but would like a hard copy.

Surender

Coin on valantine day in India   ;D the regional self styled religious parties would have a good field day banning those coins and not allowing them to be circulated.
