One of my newest acqisitions for my Saudi Arabian collection. :)

Unknown in any catalogue! :D

Unfortunately I am not too happy about it. :'(

Why? ;D

andyg

looks like someone made that with a drill...
The other ever so small problem is that that Egyptian type wasn't made until 20 or so years after the countermark was applied to it, but as I say - only a small problem ;)

Afrasi

Yes, but 1 € was not too much paid for it.   8)

andyg

Could it be that the countermark was made first - then the coin added sometime later?

No, but it is a nice attempt to "revalue" bad worn coins. In fact the fake is sooo bad, the Egyptian seller did not even recognize the Hejaz mark. ;)

btw May I ask, if there is a december competition this year again?

Afrasi

The "countermark" is not a stamp, but a kind of drilling. Here a piece of Iraq from 1959 with the same "mark".

Would you like a few more pieces?  ;D

Those coins have been to the dentist. I could make those "countermarks" myself, if my Arabic wasn't so bad... :P

Meybbe so, but we wouldn't want them filling afterwards ;D

Now I know what coin collecting dentists do when they are bored :D

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

Afrasi

These occur often in Egypt for lowest prices. Perhaps they are thrown over the pilgrims returning from their Hajj to Mekka ...  :-\
I know it is not the best idea, but has anyone a better one?

Figleaf

Mmmm. Al hajj in Arabic is الحج. The right side could fit, but the left doesn't.
