Need a little help with a 1972 Egypt 10 Millieme, I think
« on: November 04, 2013, 03:11:19 PM »
This coin weighs 1.72 g, is Aluminum and measures slightly over 23mm.

Looking at it, I thought no problem, Egypt 1972 10 Millieme.
However I can't find it in the catalog (Krause).

The closest I find is Egypt (Arab Republic) 1972 KM # A426. Unfortunately in my catalog that coin isn't pictured and it says it is 21mm. This coin is clearly not 21mm.

What am I doing wrong and what KM # is this coin?

Dale

I think Krause is wrong here ...
Mine is 23 mm, and it's listed as 23 mm in my old (1981) Krause ...

Thanks! If I was more familiar with these coins I might have been confident to think Krause made a typo. But it was easier to doubt myself.

Hi,

here is mine:

edge: plain with 3 repeated inscriptions

See the following documentation, which I'm now going to send to KM.

There are two varieties reading "jim ayn mim" and "jim mim ayn". The latter one seems to be the scarcer one.

UAR = United Arab Republic = Jamhuriyat al Arabiyat al Mutahidah = J A M

Yes, but your picture shows the scarce error coin reading "J M A". If it is your coin: Congratulations!

I took me many years to find one for my collection ...

Yes, I now have to find a normal one, if I have any doubles.... maybe I'll be lucky?

Here is my "final" updated documentation, I hope, but when I find the normal coin, I'll of course change it again!

No, in my doubles I don't have any kmA426, so I'll have to wait for a swap...

I guess you don't have to wait years for the regular coin.  ;D

btw

I collect only clear errors like the one above, and I am not hunting for filled dies or something else, but
I like your graphics very much showing the small differences clearly. Many thanks!

And how do you get the pictures of the edge ? ? ?  :o :o :o

Great photography discussion is now here.
