Thibault II The Great, grandson of William the Conqueror or perhaps another Thibault relating to the Champagne region.
Silver Wash 14.47g
Gold Wash   14.24g
Both around 30mm
Possibly lead, maybe zinc.

What on Earth are they?  A giveaway from a comic?  8) Pif like?
Any thoughts, many thanks  ;D

Champagne bottle cork seals? They are collected in France.

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

I don't think so Peter.  My son has a bit of a collection and the other half used to drink it like a fish.  I'm a red wine man 8)

Looks like I was talking PIFfle. ::)

Our French forum friends have identified this piece as made at a famous medieval fair in the Champagne region.
And if you look here you can see a man wielding a hammer and it looks like he's putting a design on something 8) or maybe not ???

And yes it would appear the design is taken from the coins of Thibaud de Champagne grand-son of William the Conqueror. ;D
